new mexico museum of space history (alamogordo)
This is a worthy visit just off the flanks of the western slope of the Sacramento Mountains. They have an outdoor rocket display including, amazingly, bits of German V-2 rockets from WWII). There are also a number of interactive and traditional displays, including a Star Trek display and a place to put on moon suits and selfie to your heart's content.
If you have a desire to visit the Trinity Site, this is also the place to register for a visit (although this only occurs twice a year). We visited the Trinity Site the first time it opened up in the 80s and haven't been back since. There's also a hiking trail up the mountains and a theater.
On the grounds is the grave of Ham the Astrochimp. Somehow we missed this on our trip (but visited on a subsequent trip)!
